Bildung versus Unterhaltung?

Konrad Dussel

pp. 77-101

Abstrakt

Adopting the general prerequisites valid for television programme analyses, radio programmes of three western and three eastern German radio stations in the year 1958 are examined (WDR-MW, WDR-UKW, SWF, Radio DDR I, Radio DDR II, DS). There are quantifying results in the sectors ›political — literary — other word‹, and ›serious — entertaining — other music‹. Next there follows a closer qualifying examination of each segment. Special attention will be directed to the absolutely dominating entertainment music in GDR radio; a phenomenon especially striking in the direct comparison between the East and the West. In closing, the profiles of the radio stations according to the dimension of the politicalization and the cultural orientiation are determined and the central differences in the systems are specified.
