Although the phenomenon of 1968 has met with considerable scientific interest in neighboring countries, it has so far been almost completely ignored by Swiss scholars. Compared to the dimensions of the French May of 1968 or the effect of the extra-parliamentary opposition of the German APO, events and developments in Switzerland in the summer of 1968 were rather modest in scale, particularly since the public manifestation of protest was largely confined to Zurich.
