This chapter presents discussions concerning political implications of the generic structure model this book has established in the preceding chapters. The new model is meant to promote diversity instead of enforcing a dominant conventionalised discourse. This chapter highlights the unaware endorsement of a mainstream academic writing conceptualisation that results in oppressing the marginal in academia. This further increases the belief in the superiority of the dominant discourse and reproduces power imbalances. The discussion indicates that the mainstream Anglophone research conceptualisation that values heroic story lines reflects cultural and male dominance, posing a risk for marginal participants to access knowledge and career development. The active involvement of ESP/EAP research and practices to promote academic discourse that can change institutionalised texts are proposed.
