Choosing our sexuality and sexual identity as project

William Wilkerson

pp. 87-103

Abstrakt

So far I have described how desire can be formed into an identity by responding to social roles. On the individual side, there is the structure of experience, and on the social side, the structure of social roles. In between these two poles lies a social psychology. Two aspects are still missing, however: the results of the biological investigations of sexuality, and the choices that shape sexual destiny. Biology will wait until the next chapter, choice I must take up now: Where is the agency of the individual? What choices does the individual make, and where do they fit in the process of emerging fusion?
