the role of Leo Apostel

Jean Paul Van Bendegem

pp. 99-118

Abstrakt

To understand present-day research in logic and argumentation theory in Belgium, it is necessary to highlight the unique contribution of Leo Apostel. The first part of the paper deals with his main intellectual influences, namely Chaïm Perelman, Rudolf Carnap, and Jean Piaget. In the second part the Signific Movement and the Erlangen School are discussed, leading up to the present situation and thus to the promised understanding.
