The idea of art in African thought

K. Anyanwu

pp. 235-260

Abstrakt

All ideas or theories of art seem to be intimately related to the notion of ultimate reality in any given philosophy or culture, as well as to the mode of knowing that reality. In other words, the ideas or theories of art seem to be determined by the metaphysical assumption about reality and the epistemological attitude appropriate for understanding or knowing that reality. Therefore, a philosophy of art in the African context cannot ignore the basic assumption about reality in African thought as well as the epistemological attitude of the African mindset.
